Steve Martin stuns guests with surprise wedding

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Steve Martin married girlfriend Anne Stringfield during a ceremony at his Los Angeles home, his publicist said.
Former Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey, a friend of Martin's, presided over Saturday's ceremony, Alan Nierob said. Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels was Martin's best man, he said.
Most of the roughly 75 guests -- who included Tom Hanks, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, Carl Reiner and Ricky Jay -- were not told that he and Stringfield would wed when they were invited to his home for a "party," Nierob said. The ensuing nuptials were a surprise to them, he said.
Martin, 61, was previously married to actress Victoria Tennant, whom he divorced in 1994 after about 8 years together, Nierob said.

It was the first marriage for Stringfield, 35, a writer and former staffer for The New Yorker magazine.

The two had dated for about three years, Nierob said.

Martin delivered his vows sporting an Inspector Clouseau mustache he let grow in for his appearance in the upcoming sequel to 2006's "Pink Panther" remake.

Its Wii TIME !!!

SANTA MONICA, California (Reuters) -- Sales of Nintendo's quirky Wii video game machine could top the legendary PlayStation 2, making it the biggest hit in the industry's history, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said on Thursday.

Nintendo Co. Ltd. sped past Sony Corp. in market capitalization last month to become one of the 10 most valuable companies in Japan. Iwata in an interview also played down the threat to Nintendo's business of a price cut in Sony's PlayStation 3 and the introduction of a thinner PlayStation Portable.

The Wii has outsold Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3 monthly since its November launch, helped by its relatively affordable $250 price tag and a motion-sensing controller that can be swung like a bat, for instance. Instead of offering lifelike graphics to appeal to hard-core gamers, who are mostly men, Nintendo has appealed to an audience including women and the elderly with innovative but easy-to-play games.

"Sony's PS2 sales of 100 million units is an extraordinary number that our home game console business has not achieved," Iwata said.

"But if we can make our bid to expand the gaming population a continued success, we could exceed that," he told Reuters.

Sony has shipped more than 120 million units of the PS2, helping the Tokyo-based electronics and entertainment conglomerate dominate the $30 billion global video game industry over the past decade.

Nintendo's strategy to entice new players into the video game market has so far proved a smashing success: its DS portable and the Wii console are flying off store shelves

‘Cops’ chases down 20th season on Fox

NEW YORK - When discussing his series, “Cops” mastermind John Langley can’t help mentioning a few of its 700-plus episodes. Like the one where an overweight woman lunged at an officer with a butcher knife.

“She falls down and the knife goes all the way in her gut! I mean, to the hilt! And she lived!” He’s clearly still amazed

“And then we had the naked burglar in Philadelphia. The cops answer the call, and the guy’s on PCP, which for some reason makes people take their clothes off. It takes about seven cops to subdue him.

“Then, a year or two later in Pittsburgh, the same thing: a naked burglar coming out of a school.” Langley chuckles. “Ver-r-ry bizarre.”

Not every episode of “Cops” is ver-r-ry bizarre. Even so, the prospect of seeing something unexpected, unhinged or simply true-to-life has kept viewers — more than 6 million on average last season — tuning to “Cops” each Saturday since March 1989. (Two half-hours air back-to-back on Fox at 8 p.m. EDT.)

But you don’t have to watch “Cops” to have felt its cultural impact. Countless scripted and reality series have borrowed its “video verite” storytelling style

Live Earth rockers fight global warming

LONDON, England (AP) -- The queen of pop was going green Saturday, as Madonna got set to headline the London stage of Al Gore's global Live Earth extravaganza.

The Material Girl was flaunting her eco-friendly side as part of an eclectic show at the city's newly rebuilt Wembley Stadium that includes the Beastie Boys, the Pussycat Dolls and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

More than 60,000 fans were arriving at the open-air the stadium, as London enjoyed a rare sunny day after an unseasonably chilly month of rain. It is one of nine gigs involving some 150 acts around the world aimed at raising awareness about climate change and backed by Gore, the former U.S. vice president turned green campaigner.

The 24-hour music marathon kicked off in Tokyo, Shanghai and Sydney, Australia, where the show opened with a traditional welcome by a group of white-painted Aboriginal tribal leaders.

The London lineup also includes James Blunt, David Gray, 1980s chart-toppers Duran Duran, The Black Eyed Peas, Foo Fighters, Metallica and spoof metal band Spinal Tap.

Live Earth was to wrap up later Saturday with a New York show -- actually held in nearby in East Rutherford, New Jersey -- featuring The Police, Smashing Pumpkins, Alicia Keys and Bon Jovi.

Victoria makes major boob

VICTORIA BECKHAM
stole the show at last week's Spice Girls press conference with her incredible cleavage.

Posh managed to outshine even loudmouthed MEL B and strangely dressed GERI HALLIWELL by spilling out of her tiny corset.

But the star reckons she doesn't know what all the fuss is about.

Victoria told Bizarre: "Everyone keeps going on about my t**s - but they're only a 32B."
