"You can't fire me, I quit" Trump

2007.05.19

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Donald Trump, whose low-rated reality show "The Apprentice" was left off the new prime-time schedule unveiled this week by NBC, says the network can't fire him -- he quits.

The real estate mogul issued a statement on Friday saying he has informed the U.S. television network he is "moving on from 'The Apprentice' to a major new TV venture," though he declined to elaborate.

There was no immediate comment from NBC

But his announcement appeared to end any lingering doubt that "The Apprentice," which turned the self-styled tycoon into a television star and popularized the catch phrase, "You're fired," would be banished from NBC's airwaves next season.

The corporate-themed reality show, which aired in dozens of countries around the world, featured young, aggressive entrepreneurs in a weekly game of elimination as they competed for a real-life job in Trump's business empire.

"The Apprentice" debuted as a hit in 2004, averaging nearly 21 million viewers and ranking as the top-rated new U.S. TV show its first season. But the series dropped steadily in the ratings in successive years, losing nearly two-thirds of its original audience by the time it wrapped up its sixth installment last month.

The show's future was cast into further doubt on Monday when the network announced a 2007-08 programming lineup that made no mention of Trump. But NBC executives refused then to absolutely rule out a reprieve once rival networks ABC, CBS and Fox had laid out their schedules for next season

Time to let go man.... you cant forever be a star... beside you had yur fun for little too long ....

Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in a new movie ..

CANNES, France (Reuters) - Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, two heavyweight actors of world cinema, will team up for only the second time on movie screens in a new film called "Righteous Kill", the film's producers said on Friday.

Details were scarce as the deal to put the two stars together was sealed late Thursday, but Los Angeles-based independent producer Millennium Films said the long-time friends play police detectives tracking down a serial killer.

Oscar winners De Niro and Pacino have worked together once before in 1995's widely-touted "Heat" from director Michael Mann, and while both starred in "The Godfather Part II" they did not share any scenes on screen.

"You see those two icons on screen together for virtually the whole film," Millennium chief Avi Lerner told showbusiness newspaper The Hollywood Reporter about "Righteous Kill".

De Niro, 63, and Pacino, 67, are considered two of the greatest U.S. actors of their generation. De Niro has won two Oscars for acting in 1980's "Raging Bull" and 1974's "The Godfather Part II". Pacino won one acting Oscar for 1992's "Scent of a Woman".

The new film is expected to begin shooting in August in Connecticut and New York.

I am sure I am going to love this one.......

Simpsons to be 400 .....

2007.05.17

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Matt Groening remembers the moment he realized that "The Simpsons" -- the Fox show he created, executive produces and has nurtured as his favorite child for 18 seasons -- had grown to become a genuine colossus of popular culture.

It was a few years back, and he was stopped and searched while going through security at Los Angeles International Airport. "Suddenly, this kid walks by and shouts, 'Heah! Heah!' just like (schoolyard bully) Nelson Muntz would have," Groening recalls. "It was amazing because I'm pretty sure he didn't know who I was. At least, I like to believe he didn't."

Similar incidents, no doubt, occur all the time -- Homer Simpson's classic "D'oh!" long ago entered the American lexicon of catchphrases -- and it can safely be said that TV series don't come much more iconic than "Simpsons." It's the longest-running comedy, in terms of years, in TV history, reaching its 400th-episode milestone May 20 (the Federal Communications Commission-baiting installment "You Kent Always Say What You Want," which finds newsman Kent Brockman locking horns with Ned Flanders over alleged indecency).

No matter what you going to say... I have to tell you I love SIMPSONS !!!!!!!!!

Hilton's jail stint may add to her allure

Bad behavior means big publicity for hotel heiress

LOS ANGELES - Paris Hilton is so pampered she doesn’t read her mail.

“I have people who do that for me,” she told a judge.

Legal documents and traffic citations elude her “I just sign what people tell me to sign,” she testified.

Facing a 45-day jail sentence — and perhaps her first brush with accountability — could be a reality check for Hilton. But regardless of how she handles it, it may make her more popular than ever.

“It will actually increase her star appeal in a very sick and demented way,” said longtime publicist Michael Levine. “There’s a segment of our society that’s somehow engaged in the soap opera that is Paris Hilton, and this is a very compelling plot line in the soap opera.”

A judge ordered the socialite to report to a county jail in suburban L.A. by June 5 to serve 45 days for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. Her attorney has said he will appeal.

That only prolongs the publicity, said Roger Gillott, whose public relations firm, Gillott Communications, specializes in crisis management.

“If she wants to put this behind her and come off looking remorseful or repentant, then she should just serve her time as quietly as possible,” he said. “The more she protests, the more she claims she was innocent and doesn’t know what she’s doing, that she never reads her legal papers, the more she portrays an image of someone who doesn’t pay close attention and thinks they are above being held accountable.”

The 26-year-old hotel heiress, who parlayed her party lifestyle into worldwide fame, told the judge Friday that she didn’t have time to talk with her attorneys about her probation. That dismissive attitude is part of her appeal, said veteran publicist David Brokaw.

She is so young and she got alot of time to make more mistake than alot of other people can make.... :(, I guess this is what social sickness is all about ...
